Larry M Thompson's Obituary
Larry M. Thompson, 77 of Elkview, formerly of Huntington and Pliny, loving husband of Samantha Thompson for close to 46 years, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of May 10th, surrounded by family and his beloved dogs, Lola, Piper, Iggy, Poppy, and Zelda. Larry bravely faced and fought a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, never losing his spirit and humor and intense love of dessert. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Irlenna Bowen Thompson, two brothers Rocky Thompson and Richard "Dick" Thompson. He is survived by his wife Samantha, children Carol Lynn Thompson, Larry "Sonny" Thompson (Stephanie), Sara Thompson, and Sara Moats, his daughter in his heart, grandchildren Alex Vickers, Desiree' Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Marshall Thompson, and Logan Thompson, and siblings Barbara Booth (Jerry), Gary Thompson (Connie), Michael Thompson (Linda), many nieces and nephews, cousins, and close family member, Carol Brizendine . Larry graduated from Huntington High School in 1963 and joined the Army, where he served as an Army medic. He was retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 521 with over 50 years of service. Larry was an avid Marshall sports fan and was rarely seen without a Marshall hat on top of his head. He loved his pups and usually had a story or picture to share of them. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic photographer and bowler and later became an avid collector and DIY enthusiast. Larry had a caring and generous soul, an easy smile, a memorable laugh, and a witty, often silly, sense of humor. Above all else, Larry loved his family and those he cared about. He would travel anywhere and do anything to be there for them, often putting their needs before his own. His loss has left an immeasurable hole in the hearts of those who love him. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home will be assisting in arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
