Lawson Chubby Dalton Jr's Obituary
Lawson Clark “Chubby” Dalton, Jr., 68, 11/28/1957 to 4/10/2026, of Huntington, WV. Chubby’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with creativity, service, and deep love for those around him. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country with honor and dedication, earning an honorable discharge. Beyond his military service, Chubby was a man of extraordinary talents. As a gifted artist, his work graces the walls of the West Virginia State Capitol in the form of portraits of former governors—a testament to his remarkable skill and passion for art. His musical abilities were equally captivating; whether playing the guitar, banjo, or trumpet, Chubby’s melodies resonated deeply with those fortunate enough to hear them. His clear and earnest singing voice only added to his remarkable artistry. In January 2026, Chubby rededicated his life to the Lord, embracing a renewed spiritual journey that he shared enthusiastically with others. He became known for his heartfelt testimony and made it a priority to reach out daily to family members through calls filled with warmth and thoughtfulness, a small but profound way he expressed his care and love. Chubby also found immense joy in painting, playing music, working at the family cabin, and cherishing time with his beloved dogs. Those who knew Chubby remember him as a vibrant personality whose humor and warmth lit up every room he entered. He had a unique gift for connecting with people and making them feel seen and valued. Whether through his artistic creations or the songs he played from the depths of his soul, Chubby left an indelible mark on all who crossed paths with him. He is survived by two children: Detra Ann Vivod of Missouri, mother to two grandchildren, Timmy Dane Slade and Kendra Kathleen—and Jordan Kyle Dalton—father to granddaughter Ryleigh Dalton; one brother: Grover Arles Dalton (Tammy) of Harts, West Virginia; four sisters: Eva Lauren Allen; Phyllis Jean Walker; Angelia Iris Hamilton; and Sarah Elizabeth Bailey (Jamie), both of Huntington. His legacy continues through numerous nieces and nephews: James (Jimmy) Nathanial Butts; Christopher Glenn Butts (Misty), both of South Point, Ohio; Miles Ryleigh Hilthon; Brandon Arles Dalton; T.J. Hamilton (Autumn) of Morgantown; J. Tanner Hamilton of Huntington; Dalton Allen Bailey of Kenova; Tara Paige Cumbee (Joshua) of Southport, North Carolina; Nichole Kristen Hilthon of Florida; Kenya Arie Bailey of Kenova. Great-nephews Joshua Nathan Butts, Braylon Gage Dalton, Zeppelin Dalton; and great-nieces Emma Paige Butts, Hannah Isabelle Cumbee, Phoebe Ann Cumbee, Elise Gwen Cumbee, and Demi Leigh Dalton also carry forward his memory. Chubby was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Lawson “LD” Dalton Sr., and Barbara Ann Dalton. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pritchard, West Virginia at a future date. The Rev. Jamie Bailey will preside over this gathering where all friends and family are invited to come together to honor Chubby’s life.
