Margery "Betty" Burcham's Obituary
Margery “Betty” Burcham, of Proctorville, Ohio passed from this earthly life on Thursday, April 12, 2018, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late David F. and Sara Margery Childers Thomas. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Rosemary Lynch. Betty retired from the Office of the Lawrence County Clerk of Courts and was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her love also extended internationally as she hosted five foreign exchange students. She loved the town of Proctorville as well as the Ohio River Valley where she spent her entire life. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church; Captain James Lawrence Chapter of the Daughters’ of the American Revolution; a founding member of the Lawrence County Museum, Historical and Genealogy Society, Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen, a 68 year member of the Teresa Chapter O.E.S. #257 in Proctorville and a noted local historian. Betty was a member of the first graduating class of Fairland High School in 1950. She is survived by her high-school sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Dale Burcham; three sons, Stephen (Debbie), Scott (Cathy), and Shawn (Angie); one daughter, Margie; eight grandchildren, Ben (Christina), Scottiann (Patrick), Jodi (Evan), Adam (Shanna), Jessica (Jared), Nathaniel (Amanda), Sara and Sashe (Chris); 14 great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Isabella, Hannah, Alyssa, Ryan, Owen, Isla, Thomas, Ella, Preston, Presley, Elora, Kai and Ty; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother, Paul (Janice), a sister, Estella (George); a special cousin, Fred Thomas; her caregiver, Roxanne Polkowski; and a special friend, Michael Nichols. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, 625 County Road 775, Proctorville, Ohio with Eastern Star services following the visitation. Her funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 111 Township Road 1130, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Anthony Thomas with visitation also one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio.
