Mary Opal Lambert's Obituary
"Mamaw" Mary Opal Lambert passed away on June 9th, 2023 at Close to Home Assisted Living in Ironton, Ohio at 92 years old. She was the sixth child born to Annie Virgie Powell and Leonard Maze on November 8th, 1930 in Huntington, West Virginia. She married Charles Jackson Mayes in 1947, and had two daughters: Barbara Ann King and Linda Sue Blake. Mary thanked God every day for the blessings of life, and took each day "One day at a time." She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Jackson Mayes, daughter Linda Sue Blake, son-in-law Roger D. King, siblings Raymond, Violet, Orval, Garlin, Oliver, Ruth, Howard, and Bonnie grandchild Stacy Lynn Blake, and great-grandchild Stacey Nicole Blake.Mary Lambert is survived by her daughter Barbara Ann King, her son-in-law Billie Blake, her grandchildren Amy Sargent (Michael Beal), Bill (Laura) Blake, Melissa Blake, Laura (Derick) Nida, Amanda Blake, and her great-grandchildren Joey Blake, Corey Sargent, Cagney (Matthew) Sargent Thompson, Jonathan and Hudson Nida, Jillian and Madeline Blake, her great-great-grandchild Emelia Jenkins, and niece Annamay (Rick) Carter and nephew Alvin (Judy) Aliff along with host of other nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Mary was an active member of the Underwood Senior Center and Lawerence County Senior Center. She enjoyed participating in the different activities including singing in the choir, completing the crafts, and participating in the weekly fellowship. She also was a part of two Red Hat groups: Fantastic Babes Red Hats and Radiant Red Hats. Outside of her community activities, Mary enjoyed cooking and caring for those around her. Her grandkids' favorites were homemade fudge, Marconi cheese, and grilled cheese. Mary did not know a stranger from socializing at the Senior Centers to capturing the hearts of those around her at her new apartment building and in the community - Mary was always a light in the lives of those around her. She will be missed dearly. The family would like to thank the Close to Home staff and Promedica Hospice staff for the wonderful care and support they provided during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Close to Home in Ironton, OH, or the Alzheimer's Association. There will be a funeral service held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Hall Funeral Home & Crematory in Proctorville, OH. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Wayne, WV.
