Mattie Elizabeth Lusk's Obituary
Mattie Elizabeth Lusk, 94, of Huntington, WV passed away peacefully at the Woodland's Retirement Community on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Elizabeth was born June 22, 1929, in Williamson, WV to the late Finley and Lilly Mae Mullins Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Arbe Phillips; sister, Beatrice Kiser, and husband of 76 years, John M. Lusk.Elizabeth graduated from Williamson High School, married, and became a loving mother and homemaker to her three children. She was a long-time member of the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church where she served on many committees making lifelong friendships. One endeavor of her Christian faith was being a member of the Hospice Prayer Shawl Program where she made hundreds of comfort shawls for recipients during their time of need. Elizabeth was also a member of the Huntington Women's Club and enjoyed working on many missions of the organizations. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Deborah Kopp (Robert), Donna Whitley (Michael) and John M. Lusk Jr. (Shannon); grandchildren, Elizabeth Ray (Josh), Rebecca Bell (Shay), Kathleen Whitley, Kaitlin Whitley, Erin Andrews (Ryan), Andrew Lusk, Ali Lusk and many loving great grandchildren; sister, Opal Underwood; sister-in-law, Peggy Lusk, and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth's essence of love, grace, kindness, and beauty was personified in all aspects of her life toward her family and many friends. She always had an uplifting word of encouragement to others, and a deep perseverance throughout her entire life. The family would like to thank the Woodland staff for their care and compassion; and the many friendships made during her residency. Memorial contributions can be made to the Emogene Dolin Hospice House or Beverly Hills United Methodist Church.A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
