May Evelyn Gillette Suiter Hunt 1921 - 2017
May Evelyn Gillette Suiter Hunt, 95, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center, Petersburg, WV. May was born on September 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Robert Preston “R. P.” and Gertrude Belle King Gillette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Fleming Suiter, in 1946, her second husband, John Seva “Jackie” Hunt, in 1991, two brothers, Donald Oregon Gillette and William Harold Gillette, and two sisters, Mildred Rosalie Gillette Bailes and Gladys Gertrude “Dottie” Gillette Molter. May Evelyn graduated from Rome High School in 1939, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall College in 1944. She was a retired teacher who spent most of her long career teaching physical education and social studies at Fairland High School. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Proctorville, Ohio, and a member of the Proctorville Woman’s Club for many years. She and husband Jack, a former Marshall Football player, avidly supported Marshall University, and enjoyed attending football games, basketball games, and other university events. May Evelyn and Jack owned a home in New Port Richey, Florida, for many years and enjoyed spending a few months of each year there. May Evelyn is survived by one sister, Roberta June Gillette Erickson, and twelve nieces and nephews and their families for whom she was a beloved “favorite aunt.” Family and friends will be received at the Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, 625 County Road 775, Proctorville, Ohio, at 10 A. M. on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Funeral service will begin at 11 A. M. on Saturday following the visitation hour. Pastor Rob Jones of Beulah Baptist Church will assist May Evelyn’s family and friends in celebrating her life. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Marshall University Foundation, Inc., 519 John Marshall Dr., Huntington, WV 25703.
