M.C. Keith's Obituary
Mr. M.C. “Peewee” Keith, 94, of Huntington, WV passed away Sunday, July 6, 2020 at his home. M.C. was born on February 28, 1926 in Alpine, Alabama son of the late Gulley and Artensius Nix Keith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Joyce Moore; five brothers Moody Keith, Savannah “SV” Garrett, Daniel Keith, John Keith and William “WT” Garrett; and five sisters Salonia Garrett, Irene Garrett, Gertrude Garrett, Katie Calhoun and Annie Laura Welch. M.C. grew up in Alabama where he met his first wife, Anna Belle Garrett of Alabama. There were two children Milton and Joyce born of their union. In search of gainful employment, M.C. traveled with two brothers, Daniel and William “WT” to Huntington, WV. He remarried to Rosa Belle Gordon of Virginia. They had eight children, Wendell, Melvin, Ricky, Robin, Leslie, Vachel, John and Pernell, together. He met Johnnie Mae Jones and there was one child Zelma born of their special relationship. M.C. “Peewee” was a retired roofer. He was well known for creating a welcoming atmosphere of laughter. His favorite past time was telling jokes. His known quotes were “Can’t you take a joke,” “you ain’t been listening,” “talk to the driver,” and “I can show you better than I can tell you.” M.C. loved listening to good music and traveling to visit with family. He enjoyed daily walks at Ritter Park. Prior to retirement, M.C. enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing dominos with his two brothers, William “WT” and Daniel and also sitting under the apple tree. M.C. leaves behind to mourn his loss are six sons, Milton Keith (Georgia) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Wendell Keith of Huntington, WV, Melvin Keith (Charlene) of Palmdale, CA, Ricky Keith (Susan) of Huntington, WV, Leslie Keith of Corsicana, TX and John Keith (Kathy) of Palmdale, CA; four daughters Robin Keith-Lewis (Jimmy) of Huntington, WV, Vachel Barnes of Huntington, WV, Pernell Channel of Corsicana, TX and Zelma Jones of Lancaster, CA; one sister Minnie Jones of Alpine, AL; one brother Detrolia Garrett of Alpine, AL; 26 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; a special niece Vicky Garrett; a special nephew Joe Keith; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, July 17, 2020 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with Pastor J.D. Crockrel officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
