Melvin Ray Withrow's Obituary
MELVIN RAY WITHROW, 72, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, July 6, 2012. He was the husband of Lola Rae (Marinis) Withrow, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage and he was the beloved father of Penne Leah (Withrow) Wood and her husband Rev. Phil Wood of Carol Stream, Ill. Melvin was born in Peach Creek, W.Va., and he was the son of the late Oliver Clarence and Mary Elizabeth (Thomas) Withrow. He was raised in West Virginia and graduated from Logan High School in 1957. He had lived in Chesapeake, Ohio, since 1967. He had worked as a department manager for the Huntington Store, and then as a salesman for Jack's Tile City in Huntington, W.Va., and later became the owner of his own carpet business, Home Carpets, in Proctorville, Ohio. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was also a member of the Elks Club in Huntington, W.Va. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by four grandchildren, Joshua Wood, Brooke Wood and Jeremy Wood of Carol Stream, Ill., and Brittany (Wood) Kiser and her husband Destry Kiser of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and a sister, Eleanor Mira of Jamestown, N.Y.; many beloved nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend, Homer Whitman. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, two sisters and a beloved sister-in-law, Dora Fae (Marinis) Light. The arrangements for Melvin Ray Withrow will be held at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, 313 County Road 31, Chesapeake, OH 45619, on Monday, July 9, 2012, with visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Phil Wood residing, and music by Jennie Tanner. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Donations may be sent to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.
