Merlyn Sue Fulks' Obituary
Merlyn “Sue” Hungate Fulks, wife, mother, sister and friend passed away at Barton House Memory Care in Scottsdale, AZ on August 30, 2025 after battling Lewy Body Dementia.
Sue was born December 18, 1939 in Dexter, MO to Walter and Wilma Hungate, the oldest of five children: her brothers Melvin Lee, James Allen, Kenneth Ray and sister Vickie Lynn. At an early age, Sue showed a talent for baking, cooking and sewing, often surprising her high school teachers with her domestic proficiency. She graduated from Columbus, IN high school and married the pastor of her church, the Rev. Claude Vincent Fulks on June 23, 1957. They had three children Mark Allan, Claudia Sue and Steven Vincent. Claude relocated Sue and his young family to Dover, DE in 1964 to start a new congregation. A promotion took Claude, Sue and family to Northwestern PA. Sue enjoyed playing tennis and supported Claude in all his endeavors. Sue was also the elementary school secretary for over 20 years before her retirement in 1996. She cherished the friends she had made there. After Claude and Sue retired, they moved to Scottsdale, AZ to enjoy the beautiful weather and be closer to grandchildren, Xavier and Asa Borowicz. When Claude passed in January 1998, Sue naturally assumed the role of matriarch. She was the steady center of the family and all its’ members. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and forged many long-lasting friendships over the next 25 years. With all her heart, she loved her husband, his family, her children, her grandchildren, and her siblings. Sue’s funeral will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2 PM at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, 313 Big Branch Road, Chesapeake, OH 45619. The service can be live-streamed from the Schneider-Hall website. After the service, Sue will be buried at Perkins Ridge Missionary Baptist Church near Scottown, Ohio between her husband, Claude Vincent Fulks, and her son, Steven Vincent Fulks. She will be reunited in death with those she held dearest. Surviving are her son, Mark Allan; daughter Claudia Sue (Clay Scrivner), son-in-law Neil Borowicz; Xavier Kasimir Borowicz (Camille); Asa Konstintine Borowicz; brother Melvin Lee Hungate (Donna); sister Vickie Lynn Hungate Nelson. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Wilma Hungate; husband Claude; son Steven; and brothers Jim and Kenny Hungate.
