Michael W. Gibson's Obituary
Michael W. Gibson, 84, of Proctorville, OH, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 21, 1941, in Huntington, WV, to Willard and Virginia Gibson, Michael lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and country. Michael served in the reserves while in high school, and after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving between the Korean and Vietnam wars.
His time in the military shaped the values he carried throughout his life-integrity, resilience, and quiet strength. Soon after returning home, Michael married the love of his life, Gloria J (Carico) Gibson, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. Their 57-year marriage was a testament to commitment and enduring love.
She preceded him in death in 2019, and he carried her memory in his heart every day. Michael went on to build a career as a steelworker at Armco (AK) Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and humor.
He was a proud father to Richard Gibson, Penny Rawls, and David Gibson and found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and friends, often sharing stories, advice, and laughter. Michael was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Proctorville, OH, where he formed lasting friendships and continued his commitment to service.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing Skip-Bo, and hosting social events for his high school classmates. After moving to Pennsylvania with his son, he could often be found at the Amish market, enjoying the many foods and sweets available there.
For Michael, every day was a good reason to visit the market. He is survived by his sons, Richard (Angie) Gibson and David (Donna) Gibson; his daughter, Penny Rawls (Dwayne); his cherished grandchildren, Chris Gibson (Nichole), Jerry Rawls, Haleigh Gibson, Meredith (Andrew) Komar, Brandon Rawls, and Ashtyn Gibson; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Mary Ann and Alice Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Gibson; his mother, Virginia Collins; his brothers, Robert "Bob" Gibson and Gary Gibson; his sisters, Lois Slater and Patty Spears. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Proctorville, OH, on March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church and earmarked for Royal Family Kids Camp. Michael will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his warm love, steady presence, and the example he set for all who knew him.
His legacy of service and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
