Michael Leonard Roberts' Obituary
Michael Leonard Roberts, age 66, earned his angel wings on June 16, 2020, after a long, cruel battle with dementia. Intelligent as well as kind, Mike always offered help to friends and family, as well as strangers. Mike loved all animals, especially dogs. Both adopted from animal rescue, Lucky the Rottweiler and Bernie the Basset Hound each held a special place in his heart. He volunteered at the Gallia County Cat Shelter for a few years until a decline in his health made it too difficult. He was born on September 7, 1953 in Modesto, California, to the late Leonard and Lorraine (Brown) Roberts. After graduating from Livingston High School he attended Chico State, achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After college Mike trained as a respiratory therapist, working for several years. He eventually completed training as a perfusionist in open heart surgery at Texas Heart Institute in Houston. For more than 30 years as an allied health professional, Mike helped restore countless people to better health with his knowledge and expertise in running the heart/lung machine during open heart surgeries. He was instrumental in initiating the open heart surgery program at Holzer Cardiovascular Institute in Gallipolis before he retired in 2011. Please remember Mike for his kindness and the good things he accomplished. May he finally rest in peace. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Sandra. He is survived by his wife, Laura; children Matt (Shelly Terrones), Sarah (Tim) Johnson, step-children Nicole and Katherine, grandchildren Emma, Henry and Nathan; his stepmother Betty Roberts; sister Patricia (Mott) Olson, and brother Kurt (Patricia) Roberts. To honor Mike’s memory you may donate to Heartland Hospice Fund of Jackson, Ohio, or online at heartlandhospicefund.org/donate. There will be no services at this time.
