Patricia G. Matasich's Obituary
The family of Patricia G. Matasich, 80, of Proctorville, Ohio, is deeply saddened to announce her passing on May 16, 2026. Born to Ellis and Irene (Harrison) Walker, on July 28, 1945, in Providence, Rhode Island, Patricia lived a full, rich life, pouring her boundless love into her family and the countless patients she cared for during her nursing career.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Charles M. “Derbyman” Matasich, her brother, Kevin Walker, her grandson, Zachary D. Matasich, her in-laws, Charles L. and Agnes (Boticke) Matasich, her brothers-in-law Michael Crist and Ronald Matasich, and her sister-in-law Sandra Matasich.
Patricia earned her Nurses Cap in 1964 and graduated from the Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in 1966 specializing in Neonatal Nursing. She began her career in the newborn nursery at Saint Mary’s until she departed for a position at Cabell Huntington Hospital. In 2003, she attained Registered Nurse Certified Emeritus (RNC-E) through the National Certification Corporation. Patricia found true joy in her work and held her colleagues close to her heart. She spent decades nurturing the community’s littlest lives, eventually rising to Head Nurse of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Newborn Nursery, where she served faithfully until her retirement.
Her dedication to nursing did not distract her from being a loving, active mother. She will be remembered for the extra love given to her children for birthdays (some at 5am due to her work schedule), holidays, family vacations, her ability to truly listen, without judgement, and her signature farewell, “I love you most”. Her legacy lives on through her colorful crocheted afghans and beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments that will be cherished for generations. Patricia shared her love of reading, Star Wars movies, Star Trek, Dr. Who, and Hallmark movies with all that would listen. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy, and she loved receiving pictures, phone calls, and fun stories about what they were getting into. Patricia also was an avid Genealogist, initially traveling extensively to gather family information, and then using the internet to continue her research. She leaves behind a library of family history and stories that are treasured.
She will be missed and forever remembered by her son, Charles E. Matasich, her daughter, Susan Matasich Tow (Chris Laborde), her youngest daughter, Tricia L. Begil (Al), who was her best friend and caretaker through her battles with MS and Alzheimer’s; three grandchildren; Lakota Tow (April), Dylan Tow (Danyelle), and Rae Begil, and three great grandchildren; Charlotte, Reddington, and Renleigh. She also leaves behind a brother, John Walker (Diane), two sisters, Marcia Crist, and Theresa Sanders (Mike), and many nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes, there will not be a funeral service. Family members will gather for a private celebration of life at a later date. The family thanks the providers at Hospice of Huntington and the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at https://ehallfuneralhome.com.
