Patrick Ryan McLain Sr.'s Obituary
Patrick Ryan McLain, 48, of Proctorville, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2026. Patrick was born on January 15 in St. Louis, Missouri. He spent his early childhood there before moving to Huntington, West Virginia, where he graduated from Huntington East High School. Pat dedicated his life to serving others. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the West Virginia Army National Guard. He proudly completed two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1-150th B Troop. The bonds of friendship and brotherhood formed during his 22 years of service remained unbroken, even after his retirement. While serving for our country, Patrick obtain several awards; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award); Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (6th Award); National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal with one Campaign Star; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device (2nd Award); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Army and Air Force Overseas Service Ribbon; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Combat Action Badge. He carried each award with pride and honor. A devoted man of faith, Patrick was a faithful member of Sanctuary of Grace for more than 22 years. His relationship with God guided his life, his service to others, and his love for family. His commitment to helping others continued throughout his civilian career. After high school, Patrick attended the Ohio Police Academy and served with several police departments in Ohio. At the time of his passing, he was proudly serving the community with the Chesapeake Police Department. Patrick also graduated from the Marshall University Paramedic Science Program and worked with Cabell County EMS and MedCom until his retirement in 2020. The partners and colleagues he worked alongside impacted not only his career but his life as well. He loved his work family dearly and cherished the friendships he built through years of service. Even in retirement, Patrick continued to answer the call to serve by working as a federal security officer, helping protect federal facilities. Patrick was a protector at heart. Whether wearing the uniform of a soldier, police officer, paramedic, or security officer, serving others was more than a career. It was simply his God-given calling. Above all else, Patrick loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Scottiann McLain; his children, Brooklynn and Cody Brumfield of Gallipolis, Ohio; Hannah and Dylan Sheets of Proctorville, Ohio; and Patrick Ryan McLain II of Proctorville, Ohio. His granddaughter, Oakley Ann Brumfield, lovingly known as his "Mini Chick," was simply his pride and joy. He is also survived by his parents, Linda J. McLain of Proctorville, Ohio, and Jeff and Deb McLain of St. Louis, Missouri; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Kathy McLain of Proctorville, Ohio, and Sean and Rhonda McLain of Kenova, West Virginia; his sister, Jennifer Lawrence of St. Louis, Missouri; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin McLain, and his grandchild, Asher Hope Brumfield, who welcomed PaPaw into Heaven. Patrick spent his final day on earth surrounded by the family he loved so deeply, celebrating his daughter's wedding. He proudly walked her down the aisle and was heard saying that day that he had accomplished everything he ever wanted in life. With that, he closed his eyes here and awoke pain-free in the arms of his Savior. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that when you see a veteran, active-duty service member, first responder, or law enforcement officer, you take a moment to shake their hand and thank them for their service. Patrick's legacy of faith, courage, service, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Through his devotion to God, his family, his church, and his community, he leaves behind an example of a life well lived and a servant's heart. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Funeral service will be held at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio, at 11:00 AM on August 1, 2026.
