Paul Edward Hawthorne Jr.'s Obituary
Paul Edward Hawthorne, Jr., 70, of Proctorville, OH passed away December 25th, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, surrounded by loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother Sally; his father Paul; his beloved sister Tammy Graham; and his longtime companion and camping buddy, his dog, Bo. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hawthorne; his son, Justin Hawthorne; his best friend since high school, Danny Burcham; and a long list of friends. Paul was a loving husband to Sheila and a caring father to Justin, as well as being a pet parent to his boisterous Great Pyrenees, Sugar. Paul loved being a devoted family man. In his 50-year marriage to his high school sweetheart, Sheila, he generously provided for her any way he could, finding great joy in taking her on camping trips, cooking delicious barbecues for the family, carefully maintaining the family farmhouse, and providing loving companionship every day. In fatherhood, too, he was generous with his time and energy. He drove Justin's rock band around the country to support his musical endeavors, supported all of Justin's interests and hobbies throughout his life, was always available to lend a hand whenever Justin or his partner Samantha needed anything, and provided guidance and a listening ear to Justin in times of need. He wanted and chose to be a father, and his relationship with Justin brought them both great comfort and purpose. The Hawthornes are a family of artists, and Paul was no exception. He could play guitar and lap steel and loved opportunities to play music with Justin and for Sheila. Additionally, Paul's joyful chainsaw carvings of bears, owls, trees, eagles, pumpkins, and more fill his home and workshop, and they brought him great pride to create, paint, display, and sell. He was always so excited to show his family and friends his latest creations. Earlier in life, Paul was an accomplished high school athlete, earning awards in football and track and field for Chesapeake High School. On the outside, he was a tough, strong guy, but inside, he was incredibly caring, insightful, compassionate, and creative. Paul's family would like to thank all friends and family members who came to visit him throughout the past several months; your support and love have meant the world to all of us. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio are assisting the family with arrangements.
