Paul "Bret" McCartney's Obituary
Paul Bret McCartney blew into this world on September 23, 1968, destined to live his own life his own way. Bret was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, to John McCartney Jr., and Shona Cooley Gillette. He left this world on June 28, 2024, having lived fiercely, loved deeply, and made lasting memories with a passion that only a young man who never met a stranger could do.
Bret lived in Ohio the last 4 years of his life. He worked as a carpenter for CNS Construction, a job he loved. He became a member of Redemption Church in Huntington, West Virginia, and was baptized there Easter 2021. He enjoyed cooking, with BBQ and grilling being his specialty. He loved coffee, bacon, guns, and freedom.
Bret was preceded in death by his grandparents, Betty and Wilmot Cooley and Mac and Clara McCartney. He leaves behind his parents, Shona (Steve) Gillette and John McCartney, Jr.; brother, Tyler (Jennessa) Gillette; a very special niece, Rory; his aunt, Jonna Cooley; uncle, Todd Cooley; aunt, Mary (Dick) Keil, and many special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to services at 11:00 A.M. A private graveside service will be held on July 10th in Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bret's honor to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV, or to the Woodland Cemetery, 36844 County Highway 6, Baylis, IL 62314.
