Richard Lee Carter, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard Lee Carter, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and revered member of the community, passed away in the early morning hours of April 22, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on December 11, 1940, Richard was the cherished child of Hazel and Willie Carter. He was preceded in death by his eight brothers and is survived by his three sisters, Marsha, Hazel, and Bertha.
Richard was married to his devoted wife, Darlene Pearl Carter, for 42 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his five grandchildren: Tylar Brooke Smith, Jacob Christian Foley, Dasia Celeste Brooks, Aiden Uriah Pratt, and Brileigh Simone Pratt.
Richard was a father to his four children: Richard "Dick" Lee Carter Jr., Darrita Rae King-Pratt, and his beloved daughters Teri Jo Carter (Oldest Child) and Tonya Maran King-Foley (Youngest Child) who both passed before him and are dearly remembered.
A proud veteran, Richard served his country with honor in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated many years of his life to working at CNO Railroad and the Coke Plant in Ironton, Ohio.
Later in life, Richard answered a higher calling and became a pastor at Triedstone Baptist Church, where he served as a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew him. He was affectionately known as Reverend Carter, and his impact extended far beyond the walls of the church.
Richard's compassionate heart led him to make regular visits to local hospitals and jails, offering prayers and comfort to those in need throughout the Tristate area.
Upon Reverend Carter's request, he does not wish for a funeral but instead a memorial service, which will be held once his granddaughter Dasia, who is currently serving active duty in the US Army in the Middle East, returns in the fall. More information about the memorial service will be provided at a later date. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements.
His kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard Lee Carter will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of those he leaves behind.
