Ricky Lee Garrett's Obituary
Our beloved Ricky Lee Garrett, 66, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Rick was a loving and supportive husband, father, brother, uncle, and poppy. He was a kindhearted, compassionate, and courageous man who led by example. He loved God, his family, friends, and animals. Rick spent his life caring and putting others' needs before his own. He was a dear friend to anyone he met. He was a faithful member of his church, Grace Christian fellowship. Rick had a love for animals, collecting antiques, baking, and maintaining his flower beds. Rick was a retiree from Cabell Huntington Hospital's central supply department, where he worked for 35 years. During his time at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Rick served as a Union Delegate who fought for Employee Rights and was an executive board member of the SEIU District 1199, which he was very proud and passionate about. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Freda and Kermit Garrett; brothers, Gerald and Thomas Garrett; sister-in-law, Carolyn Garrett; mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Cecil Dishman, and a very special sister-in-law, Lisa Barnett. Rick is survived by his wife and best friend of 35 wonderful years, Shawnda Garrett; daughter, Tiffany (Randy) Garrett; son, Ricky Garrett; grandson, Bryson Garrett; brothers, Gary Garrett, Manny Garrett, and Timothy Garrett; sister-in-law, Drema Geer; two special cousins, Brenda Mccomas and Woody Adkins; brother-in-law, Philip Barnett; nieces and nephews, Scott Barnett, Nathan Barnett, Cara (Cameron) Smoot, Kelli (Cameron) Woycheese, Connie Garrett, Shawnda Garrett and Trent Garrett; great-niece and nephews, Jace Garrett, Grayson Garrett, and Elizabeth Garrett, and a host of many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he loved so much. Rick's family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Friday Simpson and her nurse, Barb Williamson, their pastor, Timothy Dixon, and the staff of the Lawrence County Emergency Services and the staff of St. Mary's Medical Center Emergency Room. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio, with music by Michael Pancake. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the funeral home, with Rev. Timothy Dixon, officiating. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
