Robert Lee Payne's Obituary
ROBERT LEE PAYNE, 81, of Ironton, OH, formerly of Burlington, OH, died January 23, 2013, in Jo-Lin Heath Center in Ironton, OH. He was born on August 15, 1931, the son of the late Willard and Martha Payne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Payne. He is survived by his two sisters, Emma Payne-Parker of Montclair, NJ, and Wanda Payne Mason of Parkersburg, WV; his sister-in-law, Sharon Payne of Burlington, OH; his close friends, Mr. and Mrs. William Kennedy; and a host of family and close friends. Bobby was an army veteran of the Korean War serving two years from 1950 to 1952 where he received an honorable discharge. He grew up in Burlington, OH, where his first job was a newspaper route in the community. Bobby took pride in and always kept clean his late model Ford. As a young man, he would spend hours in the yard cleaning it. He enjoyed fishing on the Ohio River, where he came back with a string of fish. He always looked very proud of his catch. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and reading the Bible. He enjoyed gospel music and would pick up the guitar and tell Wanda and Emma to sing. Bobby will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be noon Monday, January 28, 2013, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. Burial will follow with military honors in Greenlawn Cemetery, Burlington, OH. Pallbearers will be family members. Visitation will be from 11 AM to noon Monday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, OH. From Emma: I gave Bobby the greatest gift that I could give to a brother that was my time, my presence, and my smile. The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Carias, Bobby's nurses Madonna and Sherry, and the staff at Jo-Lin Health Center.
