Rodney E. Young's Obituary
Rodney E. Young, of South Point, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 20, 2024, at Doctors Hospital West in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 74. He was born in Ironton, Ohio and was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Ernestine Flannery Young.Rodney proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years and retired from the Air Force Reserves after twenty-eight years of service in 2009. Rodney retired after 30 years of service from AK Steel, Special Metals and was working at the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation in South Point, Ohio for the last 16 years.Rodney was a member of the Knights of Columbus and recognized by the Ironton Association Officials for 10 years of umpire service. In his free time, Rodney enjoyed golfing with his buddies and was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved traveling with his wife and supporting his granddaughters with their sports. He took great pride tending to his lawn and landscaping.Rodney is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Deborah K. Young and his daughters Colleen (Erick) Weis and Kelli (Troy) Taylor both of Hilliard, Ohio. Rodney will be deeply missed by his granddaughters Madelyn and Paige Taylor as well as his grand dogs, Murphy, Finley, Archie, Miles and Henry. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma (Gary) Butler of Niceville, Florida and Joann Holtzapfel of Florence, Kentucky.He will be remembered for his dedication to his country, strong work ethic and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Rodney's family will receive friends from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, April 30th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 905 S 5th Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638, followed by Mass service at 11am and inurnment at Calvary Cemetery in Ironton.In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Joseph Catholic Church or American Heart Association.
