Ron K. McDonald's Obituary
Ron K. McDonald, 67, of Ona, WV passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV after an extended illness. He was born July 26, 1951 in Lincoln County, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma Mills; and one sister Jackie Burgess. He was a retired logger and retired from Teamsters Local Union # 175 and 505. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran serving in Germany and received awards as a sharpshooter. Ron was a member of Milton Baptist Church and former trustee. He placed second in a WV state wrestling tournament. He avidly coached little league and ASA girls softball and was the first coach in the league history to win multiple state Little League Championships. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Drema Noble McDonald; three daughters Mia McDonald (Ashley) of Greensboro, NC, Ali McDonald (Chris) of Ona, WV and Lia McDonald who is serving in the peace corps in Ukraine; one granddaughter Leslie Ann Dorner; his in-laws Vandel and Arlene Noble; three sisters Sheila Peyton (Keith) of Branchland, WV, Felicia Cook (Kenny) of West Hamlin, WV and Kristie Clay of Branchland, WV; two brothers Randy "Boo" Mills of Branchland, WV and Brian Mills (Michelle) of Beckley, WV; and several nieces and nephews. He was a beloved father and husband to "Queenie and his girls". He will be missed by many good friends, a special thank you to Patrick Ronk. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship for Lincoln County high school students is being established in his name, donations may be made to Drema McDonald with "scholarship fund" in the memo line. Funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV. American Legion Post # 16, Huntington, WV will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the funeral home.
