Ruth Emily Freeman's Obituary
Ruth Emily Boldman Freeman, 87, formerly of South Point, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, in Odessa, with her family by her side. She was born April 26, 1922, in Schenectady, N.Y., to the late John and Emily Stapleton Boldman. Her mother died when she was 4 years old and her father married Cora Caudill the following year. They moved to South Point where she attended school and graduated from South Point High School. She married Bernard Harrison Freeman in 1942. As an active member of the South Point community, Ruth served on PTA committees, band boosters, and many other community projects. She was a charter member of the South Point Church of Christ, was a member of "Stepping Stones," a fundraising group of ladies for Ohio Valley Christian University in Parkersburg, W.Va., and was a charter member of "River Magic," a Sweet Adelines chorus. She and her husband were the owners of Freeman Cleaners (1946) and General Sales and Supply (1952). After selling the hardware store, the Freemans bought a small ice cream shop (1974) and changed the name to the "Snak Shak" where they expanded by adding a dining room. Her final business venture was a candy and cake decorating shop (1978). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Sue Freeman (deceased at age 6); two sisters, Helen and Dorothy Boldman; one brother, John Boldman; a step-sister, Helen Carroll Perry, step-brother Frank Carroll, and one half-brother, Jack Carroll Boldman. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Freeman of Odessa; a daughter, Carole Lynn Freeman Bell and husband Dwane of Odessa; a son, John Neil Freeman of South Point; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service honoring Bernard and Ruth will be held 7 PM Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, OH. Friends may gather and visit from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ohio Valley Christian University, 1 Campus View Drive, Vienna, WV 26105-8000, in the name of Ruth Emily Freeman.
