Sandra Jean Akers' Obituary
Sandra Jean Akers, 85, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2025. Sandra was born on January 4, 1940, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Robert Nicol and Virginia Nicol.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Sandra created a nurturing home filled with warmth, kindness and encouragement. She always placed her family’s happiness and well-being above all else. Her children remember her as a constant source of support and guidance, her love unwavering and unconditional. Sandra faced life’s challenges and joys with quiet strength and unyielding love.
Sandra was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Robert and Virginia Nicol, as well as her brother, Robert “Bob” Nicol and his wife Anita.
Sandra is survived by her daughter, Amy Katherine Akers, and her son Paul Scott (Melissa) Akers. She felt such joy in her role as a grandmother to her granddaughters, Kaytlin Akers, Jillian Thomas; grandson, Samuel Akers; special great granddaughter, Amiyah Akers, whom she loved so much; and special nieces, Robin Adams and Susie Eavenson who will hold her in their hearts forever.
Sandra started her working life at Tradewell Grocery Store, a family business owned by her father. It was there she learned the value of hard work, community, and the joy of familiar faces. Later in life, Sandra followed her heart and became the proud owner of The Flower Shop, a family-owned business that quickly became a cherished part of the community. She enjoyed building lasting relationships with her customers. Sandra worked side by side with her daughter and best friend, Amy Akers, sharing not only a business but a bond built on love, laughter, and the simple pleasure of brightening people’s days.
Though Sandra’s life may seem to have passed quietly, the legacy Sandra leaves behind is one of love, resilience and generosity that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Sandra’s life was a testament to the quiet strength of devotion and the profound impact of simple, everyday acts of kindness and love. The tenderness, laughter, and unwavering support she offered will remain treasured memories for those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Amy, her son Scott and the many family members and friends who had the privilege of knowing her.
In these moments of loss, Sandra’s family and friends find comfort in recalling her nurturing spirit and the love she gave so freely. Sandra Jean Akers will be forever remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend. A celebration of life will be held….
A Celebration of Sandra's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake, OH, with Pastor Carl Black, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 1:00 P.M.
