Shaun Matthew McWhorter's Obituary
Shaun Matthew McWhorter, 63, of South Point, OH, passed away on April 18th, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born on August 1st, 1961, in Huntington, WV, to Donald L. McWhorter and Gloria Wade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Kaleb Gary McWhorter. Shaun is survived by his wife, Sarah, and their children, Erik (Kristen) and Elizabeth; brother, D.L (Marilyn); nephews, Chase and Kobe, and a grandson, Ethan. Shaun was raised in Chesapeake, OH, and was known for his athletic abilities in football, basketball, and especially track and field. He was a shot put specialist, placing 2nd in the state of Ohio his senior year. (“If it wasn’t raining, I would’ve placed first”). He has been inducted into the Chesapeake High School Hall of Fame. He continued his athletic career at Marshall University, where he won the Southern Conference Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field for shot put, where he won a total of five times. He was inducted into the Marshall University Hall of Fame and the Southern Conference Hall of Fame. After graduating from Kent State University with a master’s in criminal justice, he worked as a Correctional Officer for the Bureau of Prisons-Federal Correctional Institution, Summit, Ky, until his retirement in 2012. A Celebration of Shaun's Life will be held at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH, on April 26th, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 1:00 P.M.
