Sonia Marie Waldon's Obituary
Sonia Marie (Davis) Waldon (97) of Huntington, West Virginia passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Sonia was born on September 18, 1927, in Huntington, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Davis. She was raised by her Grandmother, Maude Twyman in Guyandotte, West Virginia. She had three Uncles: Franklin, Wilton and Shields Layne. She accepted the Lord at an early age and was a member at the 2nd Baptist Church of Guyandotte, until it was disolved. She graduated from Douglas High School. She worked at Cobin Limited and Sylvania Plant. She would also do hair and clean houses.
Sonia was married to Alfred Mossman Waldon, Sr. for Fifty-Seven (57) years. They had four children: Olivia Lee, Alfred Mossman, Jr., Josette Yvonne and Dwight Ivan. Due to her love of the outdoors and animals she would allow the kids to bring ANY and EVERY animal they found at the park into the house.
Sonia loved the outdoors, gardening, flowers/plants, Bingo, Jeopardy, Coffee and Donuts. She had a deep love for the piano and watching people play. She loved it so much that she saved her money so she could purchase her own piano, which was her prize possession.
Sonia was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred M. Waldon, Sr., daughter Olivia L. Camp, son Dwight Ivan Waldon and grandson Howard “Pudgy” Hayes. Her memory will be cherished by many, including her son Alfred Waldon, Jr., daughter Josette Hill (Rev. Reginald Hill) both of Huntington, West Virginia; nieces, Lisa Coles and Monique Johnson; 14 grandchildren Howard “Pudgy” Hayes - deceased (Kimberly), Todd Hayes, Sr., Keith Hayes (Kimberly), Clinton Hayes, Thomas Crozier, Melissa Sikora, Keith Asbury, Alfonzo Waldon, Kimberly Hill-Hargrove (Terrell), Ja’net Hill-Felder (Bruce), Regina Hill, Kevin Wooding, Tony Wooding, Dwight Waldon and Clifton Waldon. A host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, family, friends and a special friend Alma Daniels.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1757 Tenth Avenue, Huntington, WV, 25701. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, is assisting the family with arrangements.
