Sophia Jean Schneider's Obituary
SOPHIA JEAN BROWNING SCHNEIDER, 93, of Chesapeake, OH, our cherished mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015. She was the loving wife of Gene E. Schneider who died in 2002. They were married for 61 years. Born February 7, 1922, in Lawrence County, OH, Sophia was a daughter of the late Alfred Y. and Florence Browning of Chesapeake, OH. Sophia was a member of the Chesapeake United Methodist Church with baptism in 1975. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Marshall University for two years. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, she was Worthy Matron of the Teresa Chapter 257, Order of the Eastern Star of Proctorville, OH, and a lifetime member. For many years, she worked as a poll election official. Three sisters, Florence Wood, Dorothy Kingery, and Alfreda Collins along with a brother, Jack Browning preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Jeannine Shelton of Chesapeake, OH, and Sally (Roy) Hambric of Lancaster, PA; four grandchildren, Joy (Vince) Runyon and Jayson (Irene) Matthews all of Naples and Estero, FL, Julie (Anthony) Celentano of New Windsor, NY, and Stephen Hambric of Arlington, VA. Survivors also include six great grandchildren, Zach, Seth, Sophie, and Jordan Runyon of Naples, FL, Natalie Celentano of New Windsor, NY, and Dari Matthews of Estero, FL; and two great great grandchildren, Colton Runyon and Ava Runyon of Naples, FL. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 11 AM to 12 Noon Friday, April 24, 2015, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, OH. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, OH. It is with much gratitude that we thank Heartland of Riverview for taking such good care of our Mother.
