Susan Kathleen Benning's Obituary
Susan “Sue” Kathleen Zeisloft Benning, 73, of Kitts Hill, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her own home surrounded by her loved ones on June 22, 2025. Born on October 20, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, she was oldest child of the late Wayne and Christine Haring Zeisloft. Sister to Dennis (Deborah Kopka) and Sharon (Mason). Sue was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose life was centered around family and shared passions. Sue's greatest joy began 43 years ago when she married the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Benning. Their enduring partnership was built on a deep foundation of shared faith, values, morals, and a mutual desire to build a strong and loving family. That family became Sue’s proudest legacy. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joe, and their three sons, Matt (Katie), Chris (Laura), and Nick (Rachel) Benning. Sue's nurturing spirit and dedication shined brightly as she raised her boys, instilling in them the same strong principles she shared with Joe. Her love and legacy extend vibrantly to the next generation through her six cherished grandchildren, Luke, Landon, Wes, Avery, Graham, and Carter; four honorary grandchildren, Ashlee, Jessica (Martin), Joshua, Joseph (Trista), and seven honorary great-grandchildren, Riley, Paisley, Jenevieve, River, Liam, Farrah, and Emma. Sue's steadfast support was a constant throughout Joe's service in the U.S. Coast Guard, particularly during the deployments for Operation Desert Storm and following the September 11th attacks. She held the family together with strength and grace during those challenging times. A true matriarch, Sue shared her infectious love of sports (Go Bucks and Cubbies) with all her sons, fostering camaraderie and teamwork. This passion became a cherished family tradition, much to her delight. Sue Benning will be remembered for her unwavering love, her quiet strength, her dedication to her family, environmental stewardship with the Symmes Creek Restoration Committee, and the joyful legacy she inspired that continues to thrive in her children, grandchildren, and the community. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in every game played, every paddle rowed, and every family gathering filled with love. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family at ehallfuneralhome.com
