Terry Joe "Beaver" Spaulding's Obituary
Terry Joe “Beaver” Spaulding, 65, of Huntington, WV formerly of South Point, Ohio passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 10, 1961, in Mingo County, WV son of the late Jesse James and Jorene Stepp Spaulding, he was also adored as a son by his late in-laws, Leonard and Ruby Mae Marcum. Along with his parents and in-laws he was preceded in death by his sister, Mia Spaulding; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Opal Spaulding, and Grady and Sarah Maynard; and his maternal grandparents, Millard, and Opal Stepp. Terry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Katherine Marcum Spaulding; children, Katherine Mae “Katie” Gillenwater, Adam Terry Spaulding (Mackenzie) and Benjamin (Anna) Spaulding; grandchildren, Gracie Gillenwater, Claire Gillenwater, and Mia Jo Gillenwater. He was known as Peeps to Gracie, Claire and Mia, and Pawpaw to Remington Lee and Wesson Lee. He is also survived by his siblings, William “Billy” Spaulding of South Point, Ohio, Tawna (Greg) Darling of Ocala, FL, Barbara “Barbie” Hoffman of Lebanon, Ohio, and Timothy (Phyllis) Spaulding of South Point, Ohio. Terry is also survived by brother-in-law, Tommy (Melinda) Duty and sisters-in-law, Jenny (Jeff) Hollenshead, and Barb Marcum, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Beaver was a hard worked and had many jobs including floor installer, part owner of Spaulding Floor and Wall, and K & S Carpets. He was a member of the Ohio Carpenters Union, and his last job was a bus driver for Cabell County Schools (bus #812). He was a member of Masonic Lodge #53 of Huntington, WV, and a member of The Refinery Church. Beaver was very passionate about his family, loved the great outdoors, and traveling to national parks. He followed Christ and walked his faith out in every aspect of life, he never saw a stranger, would give the very shirt off his back, and made the most out of every day. During the hardest days of battling cancer, he always kept a smile on his face. He left an impact on everyone he met and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at First Church of the Nazarene, 321 30th Street, Huntington, WV 25702 officiated by Pastor Dylan McKneely, Pastor Jamie Bailey, and Bishop Gary Brydie. Visitation will be held 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, also at the Church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
