Vernon 'Poodle' Ellis' Obituary
On August 9, 2019 at 6:31 pm Vernon Leon "Poodle" Ellis passed away from complications of dementia. Poodle was born May 4, 1940, in Rome, Ohio to the late Virginia Graham Hardy and Rom Ellis. He was raised by his maternal grandparents the late Nettie Childers and Morris Graham. He graduated from Fairland High School in 1958 and then began his career in drag racing then moved on to open wheel modifieds. He retired from the C&O/CSX Railroad after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Hatfield Miller Ellis; three daughters, Tammy (Mark) Hayes, Proctorville, OH, Belynda Ellis, Wurtland, KY and Shawna (Jason) Gorby, Proctorville, OH; a step-son, Scotty Miller of Concord, NC; eight grandchildren, Luke (Rachel) Lucas, Bobbie Jo Watson, Ariel Ferguson, Tyler Ellis, Zach Miller, Bryce Gorby, Lakken Easterling and Leah Gorby; three great granddaughters, Mya Jenkins, Nora Lucas and Camilla Rowe; two half-brothers Charles Ray Graham and Billy (Diane) Hardy; a half-sister, Donna Hardy Williamson all of Proctorville; and many nephews, cousins and friends. Poodles body was donated to Marshall University Medical School. There will be a memorial service August 17th, 3 to 5 pm at Beulah Baptist Church, County Road 411, Proctorville, Ohio with Pastor Rob Jones officiating. Everyone will be invited to share a story about Poodle. No flowers are necessary but pictures would be welcomed.
