Vernon Henry 1929 - 2016
Vernon Henry, 87, of Proctorville, Ohio died on December 31, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Vernon was born February 6, 1929 in Huntington, WV son of the late Truman and Edith Lute Henry. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorcas Carr Henry of 52 years; three sisters, Hilda Caldwell, Avis Caldwell Toler and Jean Cornelison; and two brothers Howard Henry and Dale Henry. Vernon was a very proud veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served with the 82nd Airborne and the 11th Airborne, as well as the Navy and Air Force reserves. He was an active member of many veterans groups, including the American Legion Post 16, DAV, and as a volunteer driver for the VA Medical Center where he accumulated over 100,000 miles. Vernon worked as an electrician at INCO for 34 years. Vernon is survived by his two sons, Philip Dale Henry (Jennifer) of Huntington, WV and Patrick Scott Henry (Linda) of Monroe, Ohio; stepson Steven Cochran at home; his grandchildren, Allison Turner (Randy), Deanna Henry and Lauren Woodard. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Guyandotte Baptist Church, Huntington, WV by Pastor Paris McSweeney. Burial will follow in Union Ridge Cemetery, Milton, WV. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.
