Wanda Joyce Waiters' Obituary
Wanda Joyce Ferguson-Waiters was born on September 7, 1944 in Huntington, W. VA., She is the oldest daughter of Watty Ferguson and Novella Ferguson-Jones. Wanda grew up in Huntington and attended Barnett Elementary, Douglass High School and Marshall University where she received her degree in Higher Education. Wanda worked in education for more than 40 years, influencing the lives of thousands of students, colleagues, and was a pillar of her community. She loved teaching children and served as an educator at Meadows and Spring Hill Elementary Schools, until retiring in 2016. Wanda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, dancing, shopping and relaxing on her front porch. During her lifetime, Wanda attended several churches in the local area, such as God's House of Prayer & Praise and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She would also attend services with her brother and sisters at their church homes; which made God the center of her life. Wanda left this world cherishing the memories of her loving family, daughters Coretta Waiters and Nicole Waiters; grandchildren Brandi Waiters, Loressa Felix-Nguyen (Andy), Bria Waiters, Brock Waiters and Dreaun Jackson; and 6 great grandchildren, Mikhi, Ayden, Leyla, Taeshawn, Taeaire and Taevion. She is survived by one brother, James Ferguson (Colleen), two sisters Larna Hayden and Beatrice Ferguson, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special sister-friend, Zelma Morton. Wanda was preceded in death by her two children Patrice Waiters and Oscar Waiters Jr, three brothers; Alphonso, Carl and Steve Ferguson, & one sister: Brenda Ferguson-Amaefule. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, also at the funeral home.
