Vins Spurlock
I knew Sonny when he was young, I am his oldest nephew. He used to baby-sit for me and then my sister Angela, once she came along. When I was about 3 or 4 he climbed a ladder to get me down from one of the 64 underpass concrete supports. All the older kids were going out there and I was determined to go too. I got out there and got scared, Sandy, Lori and the other little kids we were playing with ran and got Sonny, who brought the ladder and got me down. He must have been about 15 at the time. I remember when he was dating Gloria's mom when I was about 4 and he used get the biggest kick letting me talk to Gloria's mom on the phone. He would put me up to saying "ask her about her beaver." He would just laugh and laugh until Mom would catch him and make him stop. He would just laugh that much harder. I remember getting stranded in his car in front of Gino's pizza on New Year's Eve in the early 70s with Sonny, Gloria's mom and another young couple. It was great to see he and Lori at Mom's funeral a few years ago. He told me about his very special wife, his children and how much he loves you each. He was always there for my Mom and was a fun uncle. I will never forget his wry sense of humor or laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with you each.
