William Arthur Hoard, Jr. was born on October 3, 1924, to Sallie Florence Hoard and William Arthur Hoard Sr. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Ada France (King) Hoard, and his sisters Lorraine Simmons, Rebecca Rancher, Bessie Adkinson, Mildred Wade, and Margueritte Atwell. He is survived by his daughter Toni Paulette Hoard of New York City, NY, his daughter Marcia Lynn Williams of Huntington, WV, his granddaughter Kristin (Joe) Sims of Huntington, WV, great-granddaughters Camille and Amelia and great-grandson Miles, grandson Davis Arthur Williams of Savannah, GA, and great-granddaughter Kaydence Williams as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He graduated from Douglass High School and attended North Carolina A&T University where he excelled in mathematics and science. Hoard also honorably served in the United States Army during World War II. Hoard was a successful entrepreneur and business owner in Huntington for several decades. He opened his own his own wallpapering business. He wallpapered 50-60 residences per year and several businesses, including First National Bank, J.C. Penney's, The Frederick Hotel, The Smart Shop, Bailey's Cafeteria, and the Civic Center. In addition to his many accomplishments, he was known for his sharp wit and playful sense of humor that brightened every room. His love of puzzles reflected a curious mind. He always sought challenges and new insights. He and his were avid travelers and visited many countries around the world. This natural curiosity extended to all aspects of his life, inspiring those around them to explore, learn, and engage with the world in meaningful ways. Funeral Service will be held at 1 P.M. Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Young Chapel Church, Huntington, WV, with Rev. David Wade officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, OH. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, is assisting the family with arrangements.
