William Richard Hysell's Obituary
William Richard Hysell, 75, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. He was born on July 24, 1947 in Huntington, WV. At the age of 14 he moved to Pasadena, California and graduated from Blair High School. He then attended Pasadena Community College. He was employed by companies such as Interdyne and Uniroyal. He returned to Huntington and worked for C & O Railroad. That begun his love for trains. He was very knowledgeable about the building of our National Rail System. He spent many summer vacations operating the train in Stone Mountain, Georgia. After retirement, he continued his passion for trains and worked as the train engineer at Camden Park in Ceredo, WV. His biggest enjoyment was letting the children ride in the cab of the engine and ring the bell as it circled the lake. He had genuine love for children. He lost his only son in a devastating plane crash in the early 80's. His love for his son was passed down to every child he met. He was a kind spirit, gentle soul, generous and always ready to give, no matter how little or how much. He will be missed by family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his father, William Wallace Hysell; step-father, Ray Cockrell; one son, Chet Hysell; one sister, Carolyn Vanhoose and his companion of 26 years, Tracy Adkins. He is survived by his mother, Lois Cockrell; step-brother, Gregg Cockrell; two nieces, Lisa Gill and Sheila Hunt; one great niece, Amanda Hunt; three great nephews, Michael Ramey, Matthew Spurlock and Gary Roland. There will be a gathering on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home & Crematory in Proctorville, OH. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
