William Arlen McMahon's Obituary
William Arlen "Buzz" McMahon, 90, of Heath, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29, 2024. Buzz was born in Chesapeake, Ohio, on May 12, 1934, to the late Glenna Mae Dunfee and Arno Emmerson McMahon.
He graduated from Windsor High School in 1952, married in 1956, and went into the U.S. Navy just after marrying his recently deceased wife, Leila B. McMahon. Buzz was employed by the U.S. Navy, Western Electric, and retired after 25 years of service from Newark Air Force Base. On the side, there wasn't one car he wouldn't work on or any home project that he would not conquer. Although, at times, he may jimmy rig a thing or two. Buzz and Leila were married 68 years and raised two daughters, Sharon Kay McMahon Miller and Reba Karen McMahon Boyd.
As a young husband and father raising two daughters, he took his responsibility very seriously, working night shifts (Leila worked days) so he could provide for his family at night and care for his children during the day. He fixed them many lunches and made sure they made it back to school. When he could, he even attended PTA meetings with his wife. He was a loving Christian man and raised his children in the church.
During his lifetime, before and after retirement, Buzz enjoyed tinkering/working on cars alone or with his buddies, spending time with family, adventure, gardening, yard work, picking up scrap metal to the tune of 30 lawn mowers, playing the lottery, and being in every phase of building a home for he and his bride. He was a very hard worker.
Buzz is survived by his two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Miller of New York, and Reba Karen Boyd of Florida; one sister, Marlene Nichols; two half-sisters, Kathy Blake and Patty Carte; two grandchildren, Jeremy Miller and Brianna Miller of New York, and one great-granddaughter, Ingrid Brianna (Austin) Nilsen of New York and a host of other relatives and friends.
He had a most generous heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He touched many lives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 10:00 at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Huntington, WV. Condolences may be expressed to the family at ehallfuneralhome.com.
A scripture verse that comes to mind regarding Buzz is Psalms 73:26.
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
