The family would like to thank a very special family friend Shirley Henson who has provided the family with such kindness and care! She has been a saint and we would be lost without her! Bill attended Chesapeake High School and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Harmon before immediately joining the U.S. Marine Corps as a staff Sergeant. He built a career in the banking business at City National Bank (20th street) as an auditor. He later retired to continue his passions of playing golf and gardening around his home. Throughout his golf career he achieved 14 hole in one's. He was a life-long Christian who volunteered with the Gideons for 49 years and was a Deacon member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, where he loved singing in the choir. Bill was a honorable man who was quoted saying "Character is the way you act when you're away from home". He was a man who led by example, was humble, kind and devoted his life to service...and golf. His best friend Ken Wakefield said his best advice for the game of golf was always "Swing easy and as hard as you can". He touched the lives of all those in his presence and his wise lessons will carry throughout generations. A Memorial will be held Saturday, April 13 at Union Missionary Baptist Church at 1pm, with services at 3pm and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family appreciates donations to The Gideons International and also to The Hospice House of Huntington.
