Xavier Tyreese Thomas' Obituary
Xavier Tyreese Thomas, the son of Wilbert Thomas and Lizzie Thomas Settle, was born January, 15, 1984, in Chicago, Illinois. He moved with his family to Huntington, West Virginia at an early age.
He received his formal education through the Cabell County Public Schools system. After graduating from Saint Joseph Catholic High School, where he was a standout athlete, he attended the Marshal Community and Technical College.
A self-taught gymnast, Xavier earned All-State honors in high school basketball. He was also well recognized for his soccer prowess. He participated in the Olympic Developmental Program for soccer. Always staying active, he enjoyed playing chess, cards, and video games. In addition, he was an avid reader and loved music, fishing, camping, and bowling, as well as cooking. Another highlight of his year was participation in the annual African American Heritage Camp and the historic George Washington Carver 4-H Camp. At the time of his passing, Xavier was employed at Yes Ford of Hurricane. At various times he also worked at Goodwill Industries, Inc., Fat Patty's, Golden Corral, Food Fair, East Coast Cable as a satellite installer, Marshall University, and as an independent lawn care contractor. During Hurricane Katrina, he traveled to both New Orleans and Miami to work on relief teams. Most recently, he was in the process of launching his own business.
Xavier Thomas transitioned from this earthly life on August 26, 2021. In addition to his parents and stepfather Elder James Settle, Jr., he leaves to cherish his memories a loving blended family including twin brother Martin A. Thomas, Isaiah T. Settle, James G. Settle, III, Paula M. Keller, and Timothy E. Settle. He will also be greatly missed by his loving Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Clifton Smith, Aunt Vivian Frazier-Newton, Uncle John and Aunt Gwen Pierson, Uncle Sam and Aunt Veronica Pierson, Aunt Toni Wooding, Aunt Nadine Nance, Aunt Claudette Jackson, Uncle Kenneth Thomas, and his loving cousins-that were more like brothers and sisters. In addition, he was affectionately embraced by a multitude of extended family and friends. Xavier was especially blessed to have a dedicated mentor and friend in the person of Minister Anthony Stradwick.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at Full Gospel Assembly, 2102 10th Avenue Huntington, WV 25703. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service also at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements.
