Betty Jane Stanley Callicoat's Obituary
Betty Jane Stanley Callicoat, 102, of Proctorville, OH, passed away peacefully at her temporary residence at Wyngate Senior Living in Barboursville, WV, on June 5, 2026. Betty was born in Raleigh County, WV on December 2, 1923.
Betty grew up on a farm in Coal City with her 9 siblings where she learned hard work, perseverance, and the true meaning of family. After graduating from Collins High School in 1942, she made her way to Huntington, WV where she attended Huntington Memorial Hospital Nursing School. Upon graduation, she and fellow classmates were set to enter the Army Nurses’ Corp when World War II officially ended. Soon after, she met her future husband, Kenneth Callicoat. They married on April 13, 1946, had two daughters and built a lifetime of memories in Huntington and Proctorville, OH. Betty had a long career as a Registered Nurse both in local hospitals and in private duty.
After her retirement, she and Kenneth enjoyed traveling throughout the country spending most of their winters in Naples and Sarasota, Florida. While in Florida, Betty became an avid golfer and enjoyed the sport until her middle 90’s. Her very fondest memories of golf included her time with friends at Riviera Country Club.
In addition to her parents, James Arthur and Myrtle Parker Stanley, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Callicoat; brothers, Posie Stanley, Jess W. Stanley, Cecil Stanley, George Stanley, and Bill Stanley; sisters, Marie Matherly, Carrie Wagner, Ila Schwender, Effie Pate, and special sister-in-law, Anna Stanley.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Richard) Hannan and Janie (Kemp) Gibson; grandchildren, Jack (Katie) Stephens, Marc (Nika) Hettlinger, and Craig Hettlinger; granddaughter, Julie (Josh) Gallagan; great-grandchildren, Ella Gallagan, Clayton Hettlinger, Luka Hettlinger, Hampton Hettlinger, Campbell Hettlinger, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers from Tri-State LifeCare and the staff at The Wyngate Senior Living for their compassionate care of Betty.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH, with Jana Stoner, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at 1:00 P.M. Condolences may be expressed to the family at https://ehallfuneralhome.com
