Charles Richard Cheetham's Obituary
Charles Richard Cheetham, 82, of Proctorville, OH, passed away on Sunday, April 26, at home. He was born on November 30, 1943, in Huntington, WV, to the late Charles and Polly Cheetham. He was preceded in death by his brother Andy Cheetham and sister-in-law Brenda Cheetham.
He graduated from Huntington East High School in 1961. He worked as a sales representative for Munsingwear and Woolrich clothing manufacturers.
Charlie is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Sara Jayne Cheetham; as well as his children: Misty Cheetham, Cary Dixon (Shawn), Scot Cheetham (Dawn), Brian Cheetham, Drew Gilkerson (Leyda), and Amber Deller (Tom); Grandchildren: Sarah Dixon Saad (Abraham), Shawn Tyler Dixon (Kelli), Hunter Gilkerson, Lindsay Cheetham, Isaac Hughes (Olivia), Isabella Deller, Armando Gonzalez (Kendall), Armani Gonzalez, Charlie Cheetham, and Jule Cheetham; his special friend and sister-in-law, Loy Gail Smith; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and brother: John Cheetham (Mary Margaret).
Charlie was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Baptist Temple Church in Huntington. He lived a life dedicated to serving the Lord and helping others in need.
Charlie was an outdoorsman and avid deer hunter and loved nothing more than sitting in a blind and enjoying God’s creation. He had one of his best weeks in December of 2025 with his best hunting buddy, Drew and we are so grateful for that time. He was a man of many talents and enjoyed working with his hands. He could build or fix anything you could imagine. He was also a member of the Big Blue Nation of the University of Kentucky and loved cheering on the Wildcats.
He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. Charlie was always quick with a witty reply or funny remark.
Charlie was an impeccable dresser. He worked at Amsbury’s Clothing Store in high school and learned the art of dressing well and presenting your best self. He knew you only have one chance to make your best first impression.
He taught his children how to iron and sew as well as change a tire or the oil in our cars, qualities he thought important for all to know.
When Charlie married Jayne, they joined their families and formed a blended family with their six children. Over the past 4 decades, their family has grown abundantly in love and size, and we are so grateful to have had Charlie to lead by example.
There are not enough words to describe the man that Charlie was : kind, honest, loving, faithful, dependable, talented, charitable, amazing, intelligent, patient….the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend one could hope to have.
He will be deeply missed, and our lives will not be the same without him by our side.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Baptist Temple at 902 21st Street and designate your donation to either their Food Pantry or Outreach Ministry Program.
