Born on May 24, 1954 he was the son of the late Charles Hughes and Bettey Carter.Charles graduated from Huntington High School in 1972. He later began working at Special Metals as a crane operator. He also coached the Lincoln Wildcats in midget league football. Charles, affectionately known as Lil Charles, Chopper Charlie, BIG C, Big Dog, and Hughey, was a well-known and beloved member of the Huntington community. He had such a giving heart and he had a special rapport with the youth. He enjoyed laughter, cracking jokes and he was an avid fan of whatever team was winning! Charles had an eclectic love for music and there was not a style of music that he didn't mind writing or singing. He enjoyed all sports but had a special love for baseball. His favorite past time was watching westerns with his mother.
In addition to both parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved step-father, Coburn Carter, and three siblings Leroy White, Lydia White, and Robert Hughes; uncle and aunt, David and Anna Witherspoon, aunt, Rosemary Crozier; nephew, Christopher Hughes and niece Simone "CeeCee" Thompson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Corey Leeth, Charles Hughes, Jr. and wife Christy, and Charlana Hughes; grandchildren Kayla Leeth, Jordan Dennison, Jayron Washington, Kaiyra Hughes, Zyan Hughes; nephews Dewayne and Elizabeth Thompson, Thomas White, Justin and Deidra Hughes, and Brandon Hughes along with as host of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
