US Army Veteran, David Lee Owens, is "A True American Hero" God Bless†
† Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 †

David was a couple of years older than I; but, he became a good friend to me at FHS! My condolences to Karen, his family and friends!

Coach Owens was a very good coach. Not only was he tough but he made you work for it. I got to know him a little better thru his wife Karen. I use to drive her up to see he Mother. I miss seeing him and her in that aspect. Our prayers are with him and the family.

I'll always remember my brother in law as full of life, humor, as an independent thinker who took the faith he was raised on and made it his own. He could be as tender-hearted as a kitten and as bold as a lion--but always fitted to the ocassion.
He was a deeply committed Christian without ever becoming preachy; he loved sports like few I've ever known and poured himself into it--and more to the young people under his influence.
I don't know anyone who was worse off from having known him; increasingly I hear of great numbers of those whose lived and character were lifted by his coaching and mentorship.
That's because coaching was, for him, not a career but a calling, and as one Scripture puts it, our deeds follow us in this life and the next.
He was and is family to me; blood ties matter but they aren't the final word in matters of the heart. I'll always cherish times of asking to be ahead of Dave at a family dinner so there would be something left for me!! It was a shared joke between us.
I'm thankful that the deepest thing we shared was a knowledge that this life is a prelude to the next based on the hope in Jesus which he valued above all else.
See you Dave, again, where we can eat from a limitless table with familiar faces and no time limits.
We'll be along presently.
