Gwendolyn "Gwen" Legare West Wilson, 72, of Proctorville, OH, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, after a valiant fight with breast cancer
Born June 8, 1952, in Conway, SC, Gwen was the daughter the late Eugene Jagar West, Sr., and Jean Chandler West.In the early 70's, Gwen met a dashing, young sailor stationed in Charleston, SC. Roger and Gwen married on October 30, 1971, and moved to Roger's hometown of Chesapeake, OH. Gwen and Roger happily celebrated 52 years together, but Gwen never got rid of the Isle of Palms sand between her toes.Her family was the true love of her life. They enjoyed many happy times, especially vacations on Hilton Head and the Isle of Palms, SC.Gwen is survived by her dear husband, Roger; her sons, Sean Michael Wilson (Melissa) of Ona, WV, and Matthew Chandler Wilson (Michaelyn) of Proctorville, OH; her beloved five grandchildren, Starrlyn Ava Murray of Delta Junction, AK, Madison Marie Wilson and Sydney Shea Wilson of Ona, WV, and Connor Matthew Wilson and Brielle Alyse Wilson of Proctorville, OH.Gwen is also survived by her sisters, Meredith West Yates of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Susan West Jessen (Ed) of Huger, SC; her brothers, Allan Eugene West (Susan) of Columbia, SC, Eugene "Gene" Jagar West, Jr. (Linda), of Isle of Palms, SC and many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gwen's honor to the National Breast Cancer Foundation at nationalbreastcancer.orgA Memorial Gathering to celebrate Gwen's life will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Hall's Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH.The family would like to give a big thank you to Dr. Bir and St. Mary's oncology department for taking excellent care of her.
