James William Hall, Jr.'s Obituary
James William Hall, Jr. 80, of Cross Lanes, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV. He was born on February 3, 1944, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV, to the late James and Mary Alice Hall.
Jim graduated from Chesapeake High School, Class of 1962, where he was a three sport letterman in track, basketball and football. He was a member of the legendary CHS football team of 1961. After graduation, he went on to play football at Auburn University and finished his studies at Marshall University with a degree in education.
Jim was an avid sports fan and huge follower of both the Auburn Tigers and Marshall University Thundering Herd football teams. He was a public school teacher and coach in Kanawha and Teays Valley and a pioneer in bringing and growing women's soccer in the state of West Virginia. He also coached basketball for men and women's teams.
Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a friend to everyone, never meeting a stranger! He was a member of Cross Lanes United Methodist Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Alice Hall. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte Bentley Hall; children, Kelley Hall Braley (Scott) of St. Albans, WV; Jami Hall Fischer (Scott) of Concord, NC and Jimmy Hall (Jennifer) also of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Taylor Braley, Brendan Fischer, Katey Braley, Claire Fischer, William Braley and Eden Hall; great grandchildren, Rylie and Collins Braley and sister, Judy Hall Marshall, as well as numerous friends and colleagues.
There will be a private family graveside service at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, WV.
