Richard Lee Merritt's Obituary
Richard Lee Merritt, 56, of Huntington passed away at Cornerstone Hospital on December 28, 2018. Richard was born on October 25, 1962 to Richard Paul and Connie Jo Merritt. He attended Huntington schools and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Marshall University. Owner of CBRM Performance, Richard was an avid drag racing fan serving as crew chief for the CBRM Performance race team. Richard also loved being in the outdoors and hunting. Rich was preceded in death by his mother and father. He leaves behind his son Richard Paul Merritt and his son's mother Rhonda Carter and stepfather Dennis Carter. He is survived by his sister Karen George and her family, Walter, Ben and Michelle Flannery and son Liam Flannery. Richard is also survived by his sister Paula Dotson and her husband Mark Dotson along with their children Lucy and Jr. Marcum and Mark Dotson II. Richard's love of racing led him to acquire a large number of friends at various drag strips. Charlie and Brian Bellomy, Ikie Gillispie and Carl Jones are numbered among those friendships. Special friends also include Mike Hollister, Greg Carrico, Mark McClure and Jack (Jeb) Bloss. Too numerous to mention are the many childhood friends from Altizer and those he met along his life journey. Services will be conducted at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio on Wednesday, January 2 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made, in Richard's Merritt's name, to the Living Water Free Methodist Church 129 5th Street Altizer, Huntington, WV 25705.
