As I sit here listening to the rain and looking through my pictures I'm reminded of my Dad who loved this Village with all his heart. Many times he would sit on the porch and swing in the swing and talk about old times, when he was just a boy growing up here. He would talk about the old stores and the way of life back in his younger days. He would talk a lot about playing basketball and how times were so hard back then. He was born in 1934, so he's seen a lot of things come and go here.
He never know a stranger, he would get on his scooter and take off through the town, but you had to watch out for him because he'd get in the middle of the back roads and make that scooter fly. He was like a child on Christmas morning when he got his scooter. He would slip off and make his rounds through the town. He would go through the drive thru and order his breakfast from McDonalds then he would slip off again and go to Fruth and get his money orders, and stop at the bank and sometimes he'd give Denise and the girls there a hard time. Sometimes I'd have to hunt him down because he'd be gone a long time and I'd usually find him talking to somebody and he'd motion for me to go on.
He'd go to Tudors now and then and go through the drive thru and order him a little tator, or sausage and gravy and when they'd get the order wrong well let's just say he wasn't a happy camper.
He worked hard at doing something everyday, he would always tell me , "When I wake up in the mornings I'd think now where can I make a dollar today"
Now when you come thru town you won't see him flying up the back roads on his red scooter, or going thru the drive thru, or sittin' on the porch, or wearing his big straw hat in his garden where he crawled on his knees and gave his vegetables away to the neighbors.
No because he's not here anymore, his angel came and took him home, now he can rest safe in the arms of Jesus and see his family and his son, Eric, who he's not seen in over 40 years. He don't need that scooter no more because he's walking on that street of gold and he's not sick anymore.
I'll miss you , and you will never be forgotten!!!
I LOVE YOU Daddy ♥️
