Roger Allen Burge's Obituary
Roger Allen Burge, 76, of Proctorville, Ohio, went to be with our Lord and Savior, February 7, 2023. He was born December 27, 1946 to George W. Burge & Mariedda M. Thomas in Huntington, WV. He is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Ira (Helena) Burge; an infant sister, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Johnny (Debbie) Ferguson; brothers in law, Nathan Ferguson, Christopher Ferguson, Lloyd (Cookie) Ferguson, Cordell Akers and sister-in-law Trudy Rowe. He is survived by his loving wife, Geneva Burge, and two children; daughter Pamela (Daniel) Bryan and son Roger D. (Jaime) Burge. Eleven grandchildren: Brittany (Nick) Snell, Ethan (Sarah) England, Samantha Bryan, Brooke (Caleb) Heffner, Kory Burge, Connor Burge, Reece Chafin, Rion Chafin, River Chafin, Rhynlee Chafin and Rowdy McCallister. Three great grandchildren; Millie Heffner, Ryder Hunt, and Rylee Hardy. One brother and sister-in-law, William "Bud" (Jenny) Burge; two brothers in law; Matt Ferguson, and Mark (Betty) Ferguson, four sisters in law; Melissa (Greg) Vanhorn, Sharon (Greg) Aldridge, Barbara (Irving) Workman, Darlene Akers and a very large extended family and friends. He was Member and Trustee of Community Chapel Church in Proctorville, OH. He loved Jesus Christ and his church family. He was a lifelong public servant to his county and community, where he served as a Lawrence County Deputy Sheriff, Lawrence County Probation Officer/Investigator, Director of the Lawrence County Dennis Boll Group Home, Investigator for Gallia County Sheriff Department, and Director of Transitions Halfway House in Ashland, KY. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Psychology & Sociology. Roger loved reading his bible, wood working, fishing, landscaping (especially riding his lawn mower and creating projects) and enjoyed yard sales & flea markets. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends. He enjoyed going to the beach and mountains, going on long drives, and travel. Roger never met a stranger, always willing to help anytime someone needed him. He was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words. The family would like to thank The Ohio State University Medical Center, The Wexner Medical Center and The James Cancer Center in Columbus, OH, Cabell Huntington Hospital ER, ICU and The James C. Edwards Cancer Center in Huntington, WV., for great care from understanding, doctors, nurses, and helping staff. Visitation is Friday, February 10, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm.at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory located at 625 OH-775; Proctorville, OH. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2 pm with Pastors Carl Black and Jason Adams officiating, followed by graveside services at Miller Cemetery in Miller, OH. After the service, family and friends are invited to gather at Community Chapel Church on 775, Proctorville, OH. Food will be provided.
