Willis "Shorty" Ray Maynard, 84, of Crown City, OH, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH. Born on February 10, 1940, in Mingo County, WV, he was the son of the late Stolla and Della P Read Obituary
Shorty and my dad, Donald Gillette, drove school busses for the Fairland district for many decades. They were good friends. I remember when Shorty got married. They had an old fashioned "Belling". Your ornery friends showed up outside your house on the wedding night and rang cow bells, banged pots and pans, etc., until the couple came to the door and offered candy. Condolences to the family.

A true gear head and a good person. I always enjoyed talking with him and he was always doing something interesting with a car. Truly a part of my young life and another reason I was into cars and mechanics. I want wish the family my very best! THANK U SHORTY!!!
Shorty took our son Nathan under his wing and helped him whenever he had a question or help on his vehicles, Shorty was there. Ours gratitude goes to Shorty for helping Nate become the man and the mechanic he is today. We will always be grateful for all you did for our son and we will always keep you in a special place in our hearts. Thank you and we will miss you dearly.
My deepest condolences to Greg, Scott, Angie... I had the pleasure of working with your Dad from time to time helping him as he helped me a LOT OF TIMES !!! I remember one time he left me working the garage when he went on a small vacation. I thought I would surprise him by Cleaning up the garage & Putting away & Organizing his tools.. Well BAD IDEA !! Although he Appreciated what I had done. He couldn't find anything.. LOL... He had to keep calling me to find something. Sometimes he was Furious.. Every tool even though they was laying all over the garage & floor. He new pretty much where the were. He would shake his head a little, laugh & tell me. Do me a Favor, Don't ever do me a Favor like that again
. Lol. He was the only guy. Who I new, could tell me most of the time. What was wrong with my Vehicle over the phone...
I have so Many fond memories of Shorty. That it would take a book to fill up !! He was a Jewel & a Great Friend !!!! He surly will be missed...

I enjoyed going on family vacations with Angie and her parents. My favorite two memories? The best one was when Shorty and Anna Lou were trying to hold on to the camper during a tornado but Angie and I ran to a ditch! The camper survived! Number two, Shorty pulled out of a restaurant and Angie and I tried to tell him he went the wrong way. A few hours later, Shorty turned around!
